About Northwinds ESU
We are a new Explorer unit which started in Brunel District in September 2006.
At the end of 2005 and the start of 2006 there were some district boundary changes in Bristol. The old Bristol North-West and Bristol North-East districts were relaunched as Cabot (formerly North-West) and Brunel (formerly North-East). The boundaries also changed.
The leaders now running the unit were (and still are) involved in running one of the groups which changed from one district to the other.
This left several groups with no explorer unit near them in their district. As a result three of us decided to start a new unit for all of those who could not get to one of the existing units.
The Unit was originally based at the 209th Bristol in Lockleaze. We spent the first 15 months there and received a great deal of support from the Group. We have now managed to recruit enough members that we have had to find a slightly bigger headquarters and now meet at the 1st Bristol Scout Group. This is also the headquarters that used to belong to the 234th Bristol Northwinds Scout Group until it closed (see Why Northwinds? below).
