Kayaking & Initiative Tests

After a bit of a delay pictures of Northwinds, going kayaking and also doing some initiative tests, are now available.

There will soon be video available as it is uploading as I type.

Bath Gang Show

The Unit went to see the Bath Gang Show which was starring one of the Explorers. He played the front half of Daisy the Cow.

He didn't do it while we were there but managed to fall off the stage one night!

Rickard Shield

A very wet Northwinds team successfully completed the 2008 Rickard Shield. Pictures can be seen here.

The team came 7th out of 23.

Young Leaders Module A

This week the Explorers went through Module A of the Young Leaders scheme. This covers the aims of scouting, rules, risk assessments and child protection policy.

While many of the Explorers from the Unit are registered with the District Young Leaders Unit for when it starts this evening helped towards the County Explorer Scout Commissioners target of getting every Explorer in Avon to take Module A.

Scuba Diving, Hiking and Smuggler 08 

Pleas can those who wish to go scuba diving make sure their forms are returned by Monday 18th. There are only 8 places available.

Those who are going on the Rickard Shield practice hike need to bring their forms on Monday.

Anyone interested in joining our visit to Smuggler 08 in August needs to return deposits and forms no later than Monday 18 February.

We are restarting for the New Year tomorrow at 7:30pm-9:30pm.

We are now based at the 1st Bristol Scout Group on Muller Road opposite B&Q.

Webb Ivory Orders

The Explorers enjoyed some food from the BBQ in between playing games.

Ben was also presented his Woodbadge having completed his Leader Training programme.

If you have taken home one of the Webb Ivory or Yellow Moon books please can you bring it back with your order so we can pass the book on to someone else.

You pay the price in the catalogue but the Unit gets some of the money.

There have been some changes to the programme.

1. The swimming on 12 November has been replaced by laser quest. This is because we can't find a swimming pool we can use on a Monday night and the 209th are in the hut so we can't do anything there.

2. The theme night on 19 November is going to be on an American theme. Start thinking about your fancy dress now!

For abseiling on Monday 15 October we will be meeting at the top of the lane (NOT IN THE HUT because of Beavers) at 6:30pm. We will be back at approx. 9:15pm.

We only have 8 places available and these will go to the first 8 to return the money and form. If you have not had a form I can email one to you if you get in touch through the website Contact page.

We will be investing 2 new Explorers while there.

The Race Night.....um....well it didn't quite happen. There were some technical issues with the DVD so we ran a Guess the Intro night instead.

The Explorers tried to guess the song from only hearing the introduction and got very frustrated when they knew the words but not who sang it or what it was called!
